The attacks killed 32 people and injured more than 300

A Belgian court has sentenced six people, including Salah Abdeslam, who is responsible for the terrorist attacks in Brussels in 2016. Three are sentenced to life imprisonment, and three to a prison sentence of 20 to 30 years.

Among those convicted is Salah Abdeslam, who was already sentenced to life imprisonment in 2022 for the attacks on November 13, 2015 in Paris. The Brussels court did not impose a new sentence on him, as he was previously sentenced to 20 years for murder and attempted murder in Brussels.

The Brussels court concluded that they are guilty according to the indictment at the end of July. In June, Belgian prosecutors requested that Abdeslam be convicted as an accomplice in the March 2016 Brussels bombings, which came just four months after the November 2015 attacks in France.

Both the Paris and Brussels attacks have been claimed by the Islamic State extremist group, and investigators believe they were carried out by the same Belgium-based cell that Abdeslam was a part of.

The trial for the terrorist attacks in the Belgian capital began last November. It was the largest jury trial in Belgium. Public interest in the trial, which involved more than 900 co-defendants, was huge, leading the trial to take place in the converted premises of the former NATO headquarters in north-east Brussels.
