Tigo El Salvador, the Social Action Business Foundation (Fundemas) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) graduated more than 1,700 participating entrepreneurs from the “Conectadas” program this Wednesday.

This initiative dates back to 2017 when Tigo started implementing this kind of strategy for technical training of women in El Salvador. Fundemas decided that she would join the program in 2020, and a year later, USAID joined as one of her primary funding sources.

The three entities have invested $1.1 million in the final two years of the project. 50% from USAID and half from Fundemas and Tigo. The programs taught during this period were initially virtual and covered topics such as using WhatsApp business, digital marketing, and digital business inventory.

Fundemas President Tomás Regalado explained that the program aims to empower women and create gender equality in the workplace.

After working in the Entrepreneurship Department for two years, Noemi Valle was one of the Salvadorans who decided to join Conectadas and found herself with extensive knowledge in managing social networks.

By implementing these tools, “El Mundo del Detalle”, a gift shop run by Valle, has increased sales by up to 20%. “We no longer only meet locally, but externally we have the honor of working for a company,” said the entrepreneur.

USAID Deputy Director Matt Rees assured that an additional 826 women were admitted to employment in addition to the Conectadas-supported businesses.

De Trigueros revealed that more than 1,000 companies that attended the training generated $14 million in sales.

Fundemas will support Tigo in the development of future Conectadas training and continue to mentor more women in the value chain.
