The representatives of cleaners and maids, who have been warning the authorities for a long time to prevent them from being re-employed by an external contractor, met in Ljubljana with representatives of the management of their employer Sava Turizma and the external contractor Aktiva cleaning.
This time, the workers’ consultation with their employer and future acquirer was characterized by raised tones and harsh words, TV Slovenija unofficially learned. The employees of Hotel Bernardin did not want to talk about him.
The union is more eloquent. The maid in the company Sava Turizem receives only 850 euros basic gross salary, i.e. less than the minimum. As a rule, remuneration for external contractors is even lower, the union points out, which is why they are proposing to the Minister of Labor to change the legislation. “For jobs where there is a permanent need for workers, where they are an integral part of the business or the product, we insist that the only and right way is to hire employees regularly, with a component of seasonal additions with external contractors.” she stated Irena Valenti.
One of the solutions is to equate the model of external contractors with the model of employment agencies, which is already in place. “They are always paid the same wages as the user, the same benefits, the same vacation, the same amount of vacation pay,” explained Valenti.
Minister of Labour Port Moon he did not want to comment on the matter today, but the company Sava Turizem announced in writing that the transfer to an external contractor in Zdravilšče Radenci and Terme Ptuj took place in a positive atmosphere, that the wages of female workers at Aktiva will be higher than they were now and that the transfer of workers will take place on 1. in March, as all the legal conditions for this have been met.
The maids and cleaners of Hotel Bernardin expect a lot from the meeting with the minister, with whom they are supposed to meet next week. If the authorities do not prevent their re-employment to an outside company, they are announcing a strike and a public disclosure of the dirty behind-the-scenes happenings they are facing these days.
