The transfer of the maids in the Bernardin Hotels to the external contractor Aktiva cleaning, scheduled for March 1, is in the interest of the hotel owner, the company Sava Turizem, the Sava Turizma workers’ council announced after reviewing the procedures.
“The workers’ council of the Sava Turizem company, after reviewing the content of the procedures for the transfer of maids to the Aktiva cleaning company, which will be carried out on the Coast on March 1, concluded that the security of the employees’ jobs is the same as in the Sava Turizem company, the salaries of the employees are increased, and contractual employment is maintained for an indefinite period of time and the hotel standards regarding employee workloads will be taken into account,” in a press release, the workers’ council said.
They assessed that the transfer of maids is a business decision in the interest of the company. The union GIT Sava Tourismwhich falls under the umbrella of the Hospitality and Tourism Union of Slovenia (SHIT), has in the company Sava Tourism only 259 members, but at the same time the executive board, the president and the deputy president, who can take over the role of president, so they see no problem in the transition of employees to a new employer, they added.
They also explained that although they are against outsourcing, they are outraged by the union’s approach and deception. “Therefore, we call on the union to stop tarnishing the company’s reputation and calling for a strike, as this threatens 1,200 jobs at Sava Turizem,” they concluded.
SGIT: Harmful practices and weakening of trade union organization
In the late afternoon, they responded to what was written in SGIT. As they underlined, both the workers’ council and their union in the company made a decision at a recent consultation to oppose the transfer of maids in Bernardin Hotels. “Based on this, we can only conclude that today’s statement is the result of pressure on members of the workers’ council from the ranks of the union,” were assessed.
According to them, the statement that the workers’ council is outraged by the union’s approach and deception is the result of the absence of the president and a member of the workers’ council. They also pointed out that a strike is a constitutional right of workers and that the workers’ council has no right to call on the union to stop informing its membership. “The works council also does not have any rights to state who will take over the role of union president due to the outsourcing of the current president. This is exclusively the responsibility of the union members in the company,” they wrote down.
At the same time, they denied that they represent the interests of individuals. A case of “union fight against the outsourcing of workers that society needs permanently, for regular work, and because without them it cannot function at all”. they asserted.
SGIT insists that the transfer of employees is to external contractors “for harmful practices that affect the social and material situation of workers”. According to them, by the fact that Sava Turizem transfers the maids, their union organization is also weakened. Last week, the management of Sava Tourism was accused of intimidation and announced a strike.
Sava Tourism: The fight for the creditworthiness of individuals
Sava Turizem denies all accusations. They are convinced that everything goes together “for the trade union struggle in the interest of the trade union to preserve the strength and creditworthiness of individuals who act in the interest of the trade union, and not their colleagues”.
