Exhibition of illustrations in the RRRudolf gallery in Maribor

The RRRudolf gallery in Maribor has prepared an exhibition of Ferrets – Mustela putorius illustrations by Andrej Brumn Čop, where the original drafts for the books Dihurlandia by Branet Mozetič and Na Pasja ravan by Janez Ramoveš are on display.

Painter Andrej Brumen Čop is not an illustrator in the classical sense of the word, but “his variously created illustrative drawings with pencils, pens, brushes and chalk follow the discovery of narratives to which he has dedicated his personal depiction. In this creation, he constantly explores his favorite painting technique, ink and watercolor, which is a constant challenge for him, because this technique does not allow many corrections and every stroke is final. In his illustrations, where he depicts a visual narrative only in watercolor, this is precisely what distinguishes his sincere personal works,” they wrote at the exhibition.

The poetics of Brumen Čop’s illustrationsThe poetics of Brumen Čop’s intuitive watercolor narratives and emotional inspirations are characterized by the fact that “it mostly peels off the essence that is being smuggled out of its interior. That’s why some of his illustrations are so powerful that they hit the reader as hard as the stories or verses they were written around.

Darker ferrets in the territory of lighter ferretsIllustrations from two book editions are on display at the exhibition. Picture book for children Dihurlandia Branet Mozetič was published in 2016 by the Center for Slovenian Literature. “How the darker ferrets fled to the land of the lighter ferrets and what all had to happen for them to be friends,” the publisher wrote about the book. On a dog level brings poetry from Poljanska dolina from his pen Janez Ramoveš. The collection was published in 2020 by the Ebesede publishing house.
