In Ljubljana, Design Week marks the beginning of the 21st Design Month, which highlights excellent design practices and will host a diverse range of experiences in the center of the city with the aim of promoting the design potential of both Slovenia and the wider region.
As part of Design Week, there will be a design conference, the Design in the City exhibition and the awarding of awards for achievements in the field of product design, fashion and interior design. Prizes for Slovenian design will be awarded at the Music Academy, followed by the BIG SEE Grand Prix international awards on Friday.
Design Maturity Trends in Central and Eastern EuropeAs part of the Design Month, they will host a multitude of design and architectural experiences. In the Big See platform, under whose auspices the festival takes place, they strive to connect the countries of South-Eastern Europe and highlight neglected creators. Director of the Institute Big Novak wins pointed out that it is the most attractive region and that Ljubljana must become its creative capital. The platform includes 21 countries from South-Eastern Europe, which represent a 350 million market and many possibilities for connection.
On the first and second day of the festival, October 5 and 6, a design conference takes place at the Academy of Music. On Friday, the participants will focus, among other things, on trends in design maturity in Central and Eastern Europe in 2023.
Design zone in the city centerThe group exhibition Design in the City will re-establish the design zone in the city center. Streets, squares, galleries, bars and shops will become design stations for a month, recognizable by bright pink racks and Design Month stickers. A map with more than 50 points will be available to visitors, and they will be guided by bright pink arrows. The opening of the Design in the City project will take place between 18:00 and 22:00 in the center of Ljubljana.
More than just a design exhibitionAs they also announced from the Big Institute, it is not just a design exhibition, but about creating feelings and connecting with the general public. The exhibitors were therefore invited to develop a performative part at the design points. The design tasting room connects design with cuisine, while the light and sound performance Forms of Sound and Light will create a special atmosphere with the help of audiovisual techniques and content projection. Both events also take place between 18:00 and 22:00 in the design zone in the center of the city.
