El Salvador and the lowest murder rate ever

2022 ended with results confirming a clear downward trend in homicide and high-impact crime in El Salvadoran society. The Security Cabinet and Office of the Attorney General (FGR) officials were the first in the Americas to hold a press conference to officially report the balance of results and figures.

El Salvador ended 2022 with a homicide rate of 7.8 per 100,000 inhabitants. This is the first time in her 201 years in the Republic that it has been placed in a privileged state in Latin America with acceptable levels of homicidal violence. We do not accept the same. I am exposing that the criminological and victimological part of homicide places our country at the level of the country that historically had the lowest numbers on our continent. It was very difficult to project, at least for me. In fact, my annual rate forecast for the end of June 2022 was 9.0/100,000. Someone may say I was wrong, but from the first semester he is the only one in the country who has been making predictions for over 20 years. Because criminology is a science, data such as empirical evidence as well as the experience itself allow prospective studies to be conducted.

The annual homicide rate per 100,000 people is one of the most complete, accurate and easily comparable, making it the leading and most international indicator of violence in a society and, in my opinion, the queen of all numbers. The emotional impact and economic impact cannot be refuted as it deals with murdered people. It has several implications. First, it is consulted when investors want to invest in other countries, just like the global tourism industry, another item to consult this indicator is sports I am the organizer of the event.I was able to organize the case in Japan.

It is a joint effort of the National Civil Police, the Salvadoran National Armed Forces, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Penal Institutions and the National Academy of Public Security, in which the Attorney General of the Republic participates, providing significant contributions. And collaborations that enable the country to reach places that many could never have imagined.

El Salvador also ended the year with an average of 1.4 homicides per day, compared to a year-over-year increase of 3.1 in 2021. This means authorities in the Security Cabinet and Office of the Attorney General have shattered the best records.

With fewer families in mourning in 2022 and the lowest number of violent deaths in our history, I am happy to have the data on file that 2021 is gone. great satisfaction for Good thing my initial prediction was wrong. Last quarter, we established that expanded security cabinets could be closed at a rate of 7.5-8.0/100,000 population.

May God bless and protect all those working in the PNC, FA, MJSP, FGR, ANSP and Criminal Centers for their service and protection to El Salvadorian society. May 2023 be a safer and least crime year.
