Television cameras in the Minnesota dugout showed Anderson and Gobert in a violent altercation, with Gobert apparently raising his arm toward Anderson and slamming his hand on his chest. The hitting was not very strong and the team had to pull both players away to prevent the situation from going from bad to worse.
Gobert was then taken to the changing room. The Timberwolves announced at halftime that Gobert would not be playing in the second half, but did not provide an explanation.
Anderson, who was not seriously injured, remained in the match. The Wolves and Pelicans were playing to get a better classification as both teams had at least guaranteed tournament participation.
