The penalty for violating the measures is partial or complete exclusion from the water supply system

In Croatian Istria, as of today, the first level of drinking water consumption restrictions apply. The measure prohibits washing vehicles, streets, shops and public areas as well as private and public green areas, as well as showering on beaches and in swimming pools. “I urge everyone to conserve drinking water so that we do not have to accept even stricter restrictions in the next period,” the head of the Istrian County, Boris Miletić, said in a press release. He emphasized that everyone can save 10 to 15 percent of water and that no major rainfall is expected in the coming month.

The restriction does not currently apply to farmers, but according to the first man of the county, it is important “reduce water consumption compared to 2019, so that with these measures we can calmly await the first precipitation.

Croatia’s Istria faced restrictions on water use ten years ago, when they adopted similar measures. At that time, the restriction also included farmers, which has not happened now. The damage in agriculture then amounted to several hundred million kuna.

“All springs are in a significantly worse condition than they were in 2012,” emphasized the director of the Istrian Waterworks Mladen Nežić and added that only the reservoir lake currently has larger volumes of water Butonigaso they hope there will be no problems.

Monitoring compliance with the restrictions will be carried out by municipal wardens and violations will be reported to the state inspectorate. This will partially or completely exclude violators of the measures from the water supply system, as long as the restrictions apply.
