Colombia: Petro presents pension, health and labor system reforms as promised in campaign

Petro, who has advocated greater state intervention in the services that citizens receive, said that “this preventive health model exists in most of the world, from Costa Rica to Europe, and the health story is not the same as work”.

Transition of pension

On pension reform, Mr Petro explained that the current system is “a business where people save for years and years is not enough to get a pension”, and the aim is that “a significant part of citizens’ contributions because it will be saved in ,” he added. public funds”.

The president said the change would allow the state to “pay a decent pension bonus (…) of $500,000 a month (approximately US$110)” to each of the approximately 3 million seniors in need of a pension. I added that it will be possible.

Tax and labor reform

In the first few months, the Petro government was able to get parliament to approve tax reform.

This aims to reduce fiscal deficits and strengthen public finances.
