First, they demolished one of the illegally built buildings in the Rovinj area.

Mikulić said that they checked the documentation of the facilities and in some cases found it to be fake. At the same time, he said that two owners of illegally built buildings in Croatian Istria have started demolishing them themselves, while three others are in the process of removing them.

In the area of Croatian Istria, increased inspection control is currently taking place, especially in the area of Vodnjan, Bal, Ližnjana and Medulin.

“In the area Ližnjana we still have ten locations, and in the municipality of Medulin there are still 13 plots with facilities. At the moment, we are writing removal decisions for them as well,” Mikulić told Glas Istra. He emphasized that they will not stop monitoring: “It is simply inadmissible that brick buildings stand on agricultural land.”

The inspectors have so far carried out more than a hundred inspections and closed the hundredth construction site today.

According to data from the public institution Natura Hysterical there are around 50,000 illegally built buildings in the area of Croatian Istria. Since April 2019, fines of 1.4 million euros have been issued for illegal construction, and a total of 130 buildings have been removed.
