A 6.1-magnitude quake shook much of Colombia at noon on Thursday, but officials have so far reported no casualties or damage.

The quake, initially calculated to have a magnitude of 5.9, was actually a 6.1 and struck at 12:04 local time (13:04 Chile time), according to the Colombian Geological Agency. “It’s shallow, less than 30 kilometers deep.”

The epicenter was in the town of El Calvario in the central Meta department of the country, a few kilometers from the Colombian capital.

Strong tremors were felt in Bogotá and other cities in the country, and many buildings were evacuated due to the state of emergency.

“After the earthquake felt in Bogotá, we have not received any calls or reports from the 123 emergency number. We will monitor the city in case of incidents,” the Bogota Fire Department said on social networks.

Telluric’s move surprised even the U.S. ambassador. Francisco Palmieri in full speech. With a strained smile, the diplomat finally continued his speech.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Management Department (UNGRD) reported: “Run Sweep” I checked for casualties and damage at the location where I felt the tremor.

Thirteen minutes after the tremor, a 5.6-magnitude aftershock struck the country again at 12:17 local time (17:17 GMT) as people began to return to their homes and offices.
